Engine Tune Ups

When the automobile became mainstream across the country, so did the auto repair shop. And as vehicles evolved to incorporate new technologies, making driving both easier and more convenient, the automotive repair shops evolved to service them. As you might imagine, some automotive services became obsolete or had the recommended maintenance intervals changed. Motor oil is a good example. At one time, motor oil might last 2,000 miles. In time, that became 3,000 miles. Today, depending on what type of oil you use and how frequently you drive, you might not need to change it for thousands of miles. Similarly, there were changes involving electronics. Many modern vehicles incorporate smart screens and GPS features. As a result, auto repair shops exist that service these parts.

Another service that changed over time? You guessed it: the engine tune-up.

There was a time before vehicles had electronic ignition systems, emissions controls, and fuel injection. Back then, a tune up involved a lot of hands-on work. The technician had a great influence over the engine's performance and timing.

Today, tune ups are less hands-on, because modern vehicles use computers that monitor their performance. Although the modern engine tune-up isn't as involved as the engine tune-up of yesteryear, it's still an important service. The tune up is a form of engine maintenance. The exact process may differ between shops, but it often involves the replacement of worn or bad spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor caps, and filters (fuel, air, oil).

Check your owner's manual for recommended engine maintenance intervals or contact us if you notice your engine's performance slipping. Our qualified technicians will check your engine's parts and ensure everything looks good. We're always learning and evolving alongside our industry to offer you the best in automotive workmanship.
